Tire blow out of OEM continental 4x4 contact!

Just as the title says, we were planning to drive our 14 GLK350 4matic for some needed miles to AR from MI so I can switch vehicles on the way back driving my Range Rover sport and install some needed clear bra locally. Anyway, 30 miles on the trip I heard a big "craaaack" sound! I thought I ran over something but I didn't see any road debri or even at the back didn't see any that I must have ran over. Saw in my dash the tire alert immediately saying I have 19 psi on the right rear. Pulled over called mbrace and tried to locate me? Do I need to tell them even if it has gps locator? Sorted it out by giving the actual location thanks iPhone 6 Plus. Mbrace connected me to the roadside assistance. After 50 minutes or so road side called me that since I'm in the exit ramp if I can drive the flat tire 500 yards so he doesn't have to drive around the next exit! Are you kidding me, drive my flat tire so you can have the convenience of not taking the next exit? I didn't see the logic in there no matter how I tried honestly.

In the meantime while I was waiting I was able to see how convenient and fully prepared the glk GAS vs diesel for a tire blowout. The pump was at the left side. It comes gloves, an extra set of lug nuts for the steel wheels, tire wrench and jack. Did all that so roadside will just replace the tire. OEM tires sucks! Second one replaced, the first had a sidewall bubble.

Anyway, decided to drive back to my MI house and drove my 2015 escalade platinum. Best move ever. I like that it comes with Bridgestone dueler alenzas that I had on my 09 escalade hybrid and got 70k miles each time. Will post pics of the tire when I come back.

After owning 4 Rovers, I don't know, with over 70,000 miles on any of them, I would trust the trip from AR to MI. The Sport while not the worst, was starting to make rear diff noises at 87,000. I had already put the obligatory suspension pump in at 50k and was dreading the bushing replacement job. With over 80k on my GLK, I would have no hesitation driving it from Philly to Los Angeles.
I did put 150k on the Defender, 125k on the '97 RR, but only 50k on the 03' and 78k on the '07.

Well I guess that was a blessing as I don't want to put miles in my RRS. The 2013 so far is the best model. HSE lux they took out the speedlimiter and can go up to 155mph. It has been trouble free. The glk if they don't fix it the weakest link are the tires. At least they don't have run flats.

So, here are the pics taken. Tire shop confirmed it must be a road debris vs factory defect. It's a good thing the thread depth are still within spec for awd.

I am glad to hear that the reliability of the Range Rover has improved. I loved everyone of them but got to know the dealer way too well. I hope you enjoy them and get the chance to use them off road.
Our dealer use to sponsor an off road trip each year, but I don't think he still does. We would go out to a ski lodge and climb the hills in the spring. He would also run contests such as log crossing and rock climbing and also do training on the proper way to use your winch. We would intentionally get a car bogged down frame deep in a sand pit and pull it out. Spring in eastern PA also produces lots of mud, so we got to find out just how good these vehicles are in the rough. It was hard to believe how steep a hill could be climbed until you actually did it.
Don't think I would take my GLK where we went, but it is still a good snow car.
Enjoy your RR's and GLK
