Hard Steering

Hard Steering
Just took my GLK on it's first long trip up the California coast, which included some winding rural roads. Wow, the steering is too stiff! The muscles in my right hand became sore and I felt as though I could never relax. I once had a BMW 328i with heavily weighted steering, but it wasn't nearly this bad. I'm actually considering selling this GLK even though I've only owned it for a month.
Would different tires make a difference? It currently has the stock Continentals.

It's fine in parking lots and straight lines. It's just that I feel it takes too much effort to steer on curves. Perhaps I'm just too used to the sports cars I've driven in the last 30 years, which have much lighter and responsive steering. Last car was a Corvette.

I've driven a new glk and didn't notice any of this ... So the thought is that if you're a reasonable person and this is about to make you sell the glk, take it To the dealer

Something is surely wrong with the car if turning the wheel makes your hands tired. One of the best things about my 2015 GLK is the easy-breezy steering action. I don't want sporty/hard steering in my tall SUV, so I was happy there wasn't any pretense of sport in the steering feel.
I think they are electro-hydraulic units now....maybe the dealer can check for codes and suspension issues.

I think you have something wrong. I find the steering too light. The 2013 and later models have electric instead of hydraulic steering, but it is better than most electric systems I have tried. Most are completely numb with no feel.

I agree. These electric steering "racks" are so light and easy. If the steering his hurting the muscles in his hand, it's gotta be messed up. I'm surprised the steering system warning light didn't light up.
