Has anyone retrofitted the trunk 115 volt outlet?
Looking at some brochures, some GLKs have a 115 v outlet in the trunk. I don't, but feel like it would be a worthwhile mod.
Has anyone done this? If so, is it complicated/costly?
Thanks!

you need the premium pkg for the 115, i have it so i have not considered doing it. However my experience with MB tells me anything electrical is overly complicated and will cause errors, i would not be surprised if there was some sort of regulator/converter since 115v is not common.

Why would you retrofit when a 12 v to 110V inverter can be had for a fraction of the cost? First consider if you really need it, as an inverter uses some energy itself. Then, look at marine supply houses for some of the most efficient and high quality units.

If you really need it then just buy a standalone inverter. Directly hook it up to your batter and use when needed, there is a on and off switch. I did this many years ago when I need to power a tv and gaming system that I had in the car and the inverter was around $100, I would assume it would be much cheaper now.

You can take the outlet of the inverter, connect it to a single socket outlet and mount the outlet in the cardboard wall of the rear passenger side. The MB inverter is only rated for 150 watts, which is 1.3 amps or less than 1/4 hp. You cannot even run a power drill at that current. Go with AzCamel's suggestion, hide the inverter near the battery and mount the socket where you want it.
