Transmission drain and fill

Has anyone done the drain and fill, not dropping the pan or the torque converter l. I'm looking to do the drain and fill myself every oil change for the next four times and wanted know how much/quarts is drained and needed to be put back in. I rather buy the oil in bulk for two drain and fill at a time and wanted to make sure I have enough on hand.

If you are going to drain the transmission via the plug, then simply measure the amount that drains out and only, repeat only put back the amount that drained out!!

You won't drain enough fluid just pulling the plug. There is a standpipe in the drain plug that is used to set the correct fluid level with hot fluid. The procedure says to remove the drain plug, then use a drift to punch out the plastic stand pipe and this drains the pan. Then you remove the pan and replace the standpipe when you go back together. There is also a tiny drain plug on the torque converter that you can remove and drain, but I chose not to do this. It's so small I was deathly afraid of stripping it, then the tranny would have to be pulled. So I just replace the 6 quarts and leave the old fluid in the torque converter.

You'll get maybe 1 or 2 quarts just dropping the plug, then a total of 6 will come out after dropping the pan.

EDIT: BTW, I bought a case of 12 quarts of the Shell Tranny fluid from a Shell distributor here in Phoenix. I'm guessing there is a distributor in Tucson. I can't remember what I paid, but it was a lot cheaper than anyone on the net.

So only about 1/4 of the fuild is drained then with this method. I might just paid the independent shop to dorp the pan and drain the converter and bring my own fluid.
Thank you for the info
