2010 GLKs - Reliability and What to Look For

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum but I've searched for threads to gather what I can regarding the reliability of the 2010-era GLKs. I'm thinking of getting one, and the examples I've seen in my price range have about 120K miles. I've gathered that I should stay away from the 4Matic due to transmission issues. Is there anything else?

Also, does anyone have any opinions on the reliability for higher mileage examples? Has anyone here hit 200K? I understand that it will cost more to fix than your average car. We do have a good independent Mercedes specialist just a few miles from my house. However, I'm hoping to avoid a money pit with things always needing repair, etc.

You might try Truedelta.com for actual reliability data on 2010 era GLK's. A lot of owners from this forum contribute and you can see for yourself what items commonly come up for GLKs of given years. That site also allows you to compare different models and years for relative reliability. In the case of GLK's, the sample sizes are usually small, but it is possible to see common issues.

If you sign up, you can look at specific repairs instead of just general trends. It's free, but they do ask that you contribute by submitting repair data for cars you are currently driving. The more people that contribute, the better data they will have.

The reliable ones are very good. Consumers Report gave it a top rating. I have a 2010 GLK 4Matic with 118K miles on it now and it has been trouble free. The 4 Matic has been a real plus for handling. Doubly so when the terrain turns dicey wet or snow filled.

You are looking at cars with over 120k miles and you don't want a money pit.

My advice is to look elsewhere and look at cars with half the miles or less for similar prices. I would personally not buy a used mercedes let alone one with 120k miles.

Save the money and hassle and get a new Honda or Toyota. Sure they are appliances, but they are not going to empty your wallet like a used Mercedes without a warranty will.

If you do go for it try to find one with all the equipment you want.

Nothing worse than watching GLK owners struggling to retro-fit rear cameras or HID lighting because they settleed for a car without those items...

Thanks everyone for the advice! I ended up getting a 2010 GLK 4MATIC with about 103K miles. It is white with the sport appearance package, AMG-style wheels, leather/wood interior, etc. Very happy with it!
