Clicking Noise Under Vehicle

Aloha...yep me again, has anybody noticed a clicking noise under your GLK. Mine is a GLK 250 but this could be something on the 350 as well. My warranty is getting close on ending and I want to be sure there is nothing major going on.

It is a clicking sound every 3 - 5 seconds under the vehicle and location would be towards back of motor. I'm guessing since I'm to big to crawl under. This sound has been going no since at least 15k.

Mahalo...

My 250 has a slow clicking underneath in certain (most) conditions. The frequency increases with engine RPM. I was thinking it's the DEF injector, but am taking the car in for the rear end thump soon and will have them check the clicking as well. I see that your post is pretty old, so did you ever resolve the issue?

Mine makes the same rhythmic clicking when idling, and increases in frequency at speed. I notice it only with the windows down, which doesn't happen too often. It's being going on for at least 23K miles and no issues to date but it would be nice to know what it is.

And second the rear end thump, which is still not completely resolved even after a transmission controller update.

I'm beginning to think all 250s behave this way...

i forgot to update the thread. Dealer said they couldn't figure out the clicking. Since it's linked to engine speed and continues while the car is stopped, I've been assuming it's the DEF injector.

Regarding the driveline thunk, the dealer says all GLKs have a bit of slop in the splined driveshaft connection to the diff, and that the diesels make the clunk when the trans engages and disengages at idle because of the torque. When the car was still under warranty they packed the splines with grease and noted the fix would be temporary. It was.

I should also add: the faint click continues even at idle (windows down, otherwise silent) and still no issues in the 2+ years since my last post.

Also, it's not the DEF injector/system as mine is turned off.

Good thing is that the click hasn't gotten any louder/worse. The little truck still drives like it did when I bought it, over 70k miles ago.
