Help! Stuck parking brake

out in the middle of the woods right now, parking brake release won’t work. Car is stuck... messed around with the foot pedal and release, nothing... any ideas?

Is the 2014 a manual cable?

Yes it is operated by a lever and cable that connects to the drum brakes.

I have no idea what would cause this failure, but hope its not something expensive!

You said middle of the woods. Check both right and left rear brake inner drum for a branch stuck keeping the cable from retracting. Also follow back to the center of the vehicle to make sure the sticks are not locking it up.

Funny thing you should mention this, I just had MB replace mine (I had complained about the issue while it was still under warranty, so they graciously replaced the part for free and I paid for the labor).

What I had happen is that a spring in the parking brake pedal assembly gradually failed. The initial symptom was that when I pulled on the release handle the parking brake "reluctantly" released. The problem was worse in cold weather and once the car interior warmed up, it would release correctly. This made it very hard for the dealer to diagnose since the mechanic never saw the car when it was cold. Eventually it failed completely.

If that is your problem and the car is out of warranty, your best bet is to find a used pedal assembly from a wrecked GLK as the assembly is about $400~500 from MB.

Good luck!

Good to know. Thankfully 2-3 months of warranty left so I'll get that looked at right away. Thanks for the tip.
