Modify roof rack cross bars to fit different model

I have sold my GLK, but still have the OE roof rack crossbars. Had some interest from an owner of a GL320. It looks like the crossbars for different GLx models are of similar design but of different ;lengths. The ends just slide on and are located with 2 pins. If a different model needed shorter bars, it should be possible to remove one end, shorten bar and then reinstall the end. But not sure how one would remove the pins.

Has anyone done this or heard of anyone that has?

Modify GLK roofrack bars

Decided to have a look at it.

- Looking down inside the tube, there are two pins. Their heads can be seen on the underside of the end moulding. These can be pried out using a large screwdriver or other type of wedge and a pair of pliers
-Once out, the end can be removed. There is a slider that slides inside the tube.
- There is a slot in the tubing that is enlarged at the inner end. The pins pass through that area and limit how far the end moulding can move in and out. This gives the bars about 1 1/2" of in-out adjustment without making any modifications.

In order to shorten the bars, the end of the bar would need to be cut to desired length. And the wider part of the slot would need to be extended inward by about same amount as cut from end.
