Aftermarket 2" tralier hitch install on GLK250 (2013)

We're purchasing a small trailer to pull behind our GLK250. The vehicle currently has a (apparently) factory installed 1 1/8" hitch installed, we need to upgrade this to a 2" aftermarket hitch so we can increase the towing capacity to the maximum rating (3500#). I've seen Curt and other hitches that look like they bolt up quite easily but I've seen no info on removing the existing hitch-which sits recessed into the rear bumper. The RV company wants to charge us $1100 to install a 2" hitch which they say requires removing the rear bumper (I believe this is to remove the old hitch). This seems like a high figure to install a hitch. I'm wondering if the bumper really does need to be removed either to remove old hitch or install new one. If anyone has any experience/knowledge in this area I'd greatly appreciate any input.

yes factory is attached to bumper. You can do it yourself, lots of bolts and nuts and a special tool is required to remove 4 long screws that are embedded right below floor plate.
