I prefer the vacuum top-side method myself. I've done it both ways, though.
Agreed, the GLK is pretty easy to work on; you just have to get past the "oh noes, it's a Benz, I can't touch it" mentality and get in there. It's not rocket science.

I have been draining from the pan for more decades than I care to admit to. While I'm sure the topside method works fine, I like to make sure that any of the thicker stuff that may accumulate in the bottom comes out too.
I used Mercedes branded 229.5 because it was cheaper than anything else I found and why now? I also used a MB filter because it was there when I picked up the oil. I used a new crush washer too.
I did not do an engine flush.
I did not use any additives.
I was not in a hurry and it was done in about 30 minutes.

Like I said: it's not rocket science
My last service included a fuel filter, air filter, and cabin filter change. Easy peasy, under 2 hours, no issues and I'm good for the next 10K.
