245 50 20 for 2011 GLK350 4Matic Anyone try this size? Possible consequences.
Just purchased a used 2011 GLK350 that is in serious need of new tires. Found a great deal on some Toyo tires that are 245 50 20.
I have read all the posts here on tires and realize that 245 45 20’s will fit.
I am wondering if anyone has tried a 245 50 20? The diameter is about 1.4 inches larger. Revs per mile goes from 737 to 700 and the tire size guides report a 4.7% difference in diameter. Speedo would be off as well.
Is it possible to change the tire size in the computer?
Another size for consideration is a 255 40 20. In the threads I have found some report rubbing and some do not. If anyone has experience with this size I would love to hear about your experiences. The tire diameter is the similar to stock buit is wider.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
Ken
https://tiresize.com/comparison/Edit: what exactly is "a great deal" these days? For comparison, I put 4 new Michelin Premier LTXs in stock 235/50/R19s for under $900.
How much more would you be saving by not using OEM sizes?

The deal was at Walmart on some Toyo Open Country Q/T 245 50 20 for $465 US plus install.
Too nervous about the increase in diameter after comparing stock with that size.
Ended up with Continental DWS06 in a 245 45 20 for about $815 US plus install and am happy with them.
No rubbing but needed an alignment as it was out a fair bit and wearing the old tires unevenly. Lots of wheel damage indicating lots of curbing.
Now the brakes, tires, alignment and wheel refinishing is all done.
Time to enjoy..
