AC Vent Replacement

2015 GLK 250

Has anyone repaired or replaced their vents. I have a couple that are very loose. Thanks for any feedback.

I guess this isn't a widespread issue. Perhaps the dealership can offer advice.

There is really no fix for it because the vents are all plastic. You will have to replace with new vents.

I guess I'm trying to determine if it's a diy job or not?

It is super easy replacement. You just need a Torx 20, a wedge, and the special mercedes four prong claw socket.

Would you happen to have a part number for the claw socket you're referring to? I'm assuming the wedge you speak of is a trim removal tool. I may attempt this myself if I can gather enough information to feel comfortable doing so. I appreciate any advice you could share. I figured there would be more DIY videos on Youtube but I haven't found many that are very good.

Thanks!

The socket is 639-589-01-07-00. It is also referred to as the ignition socket. I recommend picking up a cheap one on amazon.

There's a few videos that show the head unit being replaced that are insightful. Google those on youtube and if those don't help I will make one for you.

Very good! I'll research that and see what I can find. I'll be in touch if I need further directions. Thanks again!

Hey JohnnyC,

I just wanted to run something by you. For the center section it appears that I remove the pushbutton bezel, remove the end trim panel to access the T20, and then the whole assembly is removable. I'm thinking this is where you may need the wedge tool. Is this correct? The video I watched didn't show that process. I may just start with the left vent for the driver. I'm assuming this is held by a single T20 also. Could you clarify the use of the wedge tool and if possible provide a part number for that as well. Thanks again for your assistance thus far.

The wedge tool is just any plastic trim tool you can use for leverage. You jab it in thick areas of the trim to separate it.

The removal steps are correct. You push out the vents while holding down the four springs.

Hey JohnnyC can I ask another question? My vent controls work if pushed in slightly to engage the spring you refer to. Is the spring a replaceable item?

Thanks

The spring I am referring to is behind the trim, you can't see it. Not sure what you mean by work? Like less floppy?

Yes, less floppy. When lightly pressed it can be open and closed. Otherwise it just free spins.

Hey I got two of them replaced. Your knowledge was very helpful. I hate prying panels off but it went well. The ignition tool was a must have item. Thanks again!!

No definitely not. Worst part is delicately prying the panels. Once again, thanks for your assistance!!
