Ebrake Release Lever: Slow Release of Pedal

I have been reading up on the issue as I am currently being affected by it... specifically when pulling the release lever, the ebrake pedal slowly returns to its release position but requires me to hold the lever until it is done. Otherwise, It will stop mid point causing it to stay on.

So far all the threads are old and instruct to take dealer to fix since it is under warranty. Fast forward to 2020, that is not a viable option so has anyone DIY this?

It could be either the pivot point of the pedal or the cable. Try spraying WD40 into the pedal pivot and the visible linkage, if that fixes it follow up with some oil. If that doesn't fix it you might be looking at a new cable.

Did you have to take the plastic cover panels in the footwell to get to the pedal pivot or linkage? It started affecting my 2015 as well, where I have to either pull release handle multiple times or keep holding it until e-brake light is off. I believe it just needs to be greased up as issue only comes up when temperatures dip below -10C or so... Thanks

No need to pull the kick panel. You can visibly see it just putting you head underneath the dash. However, to clean it thoroughly, you should remove the side cover on the dashboard next to the door.

Refer to this video which is what I referenced:
