How exactly is the bumper going to be fixed? (GLK350 2013)

Someone did a hit & run back up into my bumper accident. Anyways, it’s heading to the shop tomorrow and it’s a shop I’ve never taken it to before. It’s not my field of knowledge and I’m wondering,

a. if all goes as planned how long should repair take?

b. do they replace the entire bumper or just the section?

With plastic bumpers today a dent like that can be repaired easily just heat up and reform back to original shape, 90% of the time you dont even need any fillers, most shops will go for the quicker method and just replace, cant see it taking more than a couple of days as long as there are no issues (parts, other damage or workload of the shop)

From my experience, it depends a lot more on your insurance company and the shop you/they choose. It can be over in days, or it can take weeks. YMMV.

Sucks that it happened in the first place, my condolences.

If the car has lane assist and blind spot detection, better to take it to professionals or it will never be right again

I think that's a new bumper cover. Aftermarket bumper covers are cheap esp compared to labor of fixing something like this. Make sure you use good body shop that uses good paint, that's a bigger issue.

How do i know if they’re using good paint? Ask them what kind afterwards?

I would look for a place that's recommended. Look at reviews. Look what kind of cars they do. Ask on forums.
I used to do collision work through the dealer. They subcontract it to a body shop anyways so can just find that bodyshop. It helps your car is white (not metallic).
Rear white bumper should be pretty standard thing to do tho.

That bumper will be replaced for sure. They cant fix that plastic bumper 100% as there will be a faint crease line.
