I knew that these things had the potential to have the problem. Over several test drives there was no indication of a problem. The vehicle only has 110 000km. Today I brought it in to the transmission shop and my suspicions were confirmed. Do I get some sort of welcoming gift or a party??

Curious what exactly happened? and what's the plan? Hopefully you can get a used tranny and swap it in.

Well, one day she came home from work and told me the vehicle was making noise...I took it for a drive and heard it before I was halfway down the block. I already knew about the history of TCs in these vehicles but was hoping for a front diff! I brought it to the tranny shop and I'll do a rebuild. The old guy there has done about a dozen of them. My wife was driving a Honda pilot but we passed it on to our oldest daughter. That thing has 400000km on it and I've done a wheel bearing.😆

Haha, my wife has a Pilot too, got it for her new back in 2014.....I think she's pushing 100K miles on it. I do not enjoy driving/riding in it though lol.

good to know people rebuild them now. I thought it's just a bearing that goes bad, but since the dealers would just replace the whole thing this was never confirmed.

So I got the GLK back. The mechanic figured the root cause was the clogged screen on the oil line to the back of the transmission. It seemed to be a little bit of clutch material that he considered normal. The filter and magnet had a little bit of bearing material. A combination of design geometry and the very fine screen are the culprit. Is this what you guys have been hearing? The bill was $2400 CDN tax in.
