A head's up for those who might have issues with the DEF heating element

Long story short, my DEF heating circuit failed last December. There are two heating elements IIRC, and one of them failed.

Regardless, the point is, winter was coming and I couldn't leave that as is.

The problem is that the dealer (in Canada at least) wanted over 1 200$ for the replacement part. Since the DEF tank has to come off the car to replace it, add the labor at the dealer rate and you're 2k$ down the drain in no time.

There are few options out there, including some dubious remanufactured parts and/or some chinese knock-off crap.

However, I found a Canadian company called Xemodex who manufactures brand new replacement parts. Their specialty seems to be Volvo control modules and their reputation seems good, from the various forums I consulted.

They offer a DEF heater replacement kit for only 549$. In Canada at least, this price includes shipping and since this isn't a remanufactured part, there is no core charge. The kicker? If you Google this, you end up by default on their «.com» website which sells in US dollars. Their «.ca» website sells it, however, in Canadian dollars. I don't know if americans can buy off the .ca website and thus save an extra 25% (due to the exchange rate), but it's worth a try.

Here's the link :

I called them on December 31st, they were still open until noon, they shipped it the same day, I received it very fast and had it installed at a local shop and pretty much saved 50%.

Thank you for the heads up on this.

Exoparts wants 795$CDN for the heater only. Can't even imagine the stealership cost.

Calling them tomorrow, it says 2014-2015, mines 2013, hopefully the same.
