2015 GLK 350 4matic Sport Pkg 45k miles US$19k
Private seller sell above car with relatively low price. He only accept cash. Is it safe to buy from private seller? Is it difficult to get refund in case car had problem? What is the best way and safe to buy car from private seller? This car should be sell around $22K so it could be car had big problem such as transfer case. Please advice.

There is no way I would show up with 19K in a bag to pay a total stranger for a used car. There are far too many ways for this to go bad in a very short time.

You need to get it inspected by a good mechanic. You or someone needs to road test it and get the transmission warmed up and drive it hard to see if it slips or anything is found. Get maintenance records and for oil changes . Check out if it’s been in an accident by maybe Car Fax. Read up on how to buy a used car.

At 6 years a lot of time based maintenance is near, the 2 batteries, tires, might be first, that’s about 1000- 1400$. The transmission oil really needs changing now, a dealer will want 750$, an independent mechanic about 450$, the trans fluid really needs to be done, if they already did it it could be because problems are showing, then I’d walk. Lacking Oil change receipts at the proper milage would break the deal for me. Check the body for body filler with a magnet. Everything has to be checked but at that milage it’s probably ok. I bought mine used and the auto windshield wiper system goes to an annoying real fast after just mild rain. My back windows hardly go down. Everything costs a lot to fix on a MB, and you don’t buy a MB and use a dealer unless your rich and have money to waste, you need a good independent mechanic that knows MB , especially for the Transmission service, it’s difficult to do.

Brakes might be due now, that can cost nearly 1000 at MB or 5-600 if you have an independent do it. And even then there are options - ways to do it cheaper, I’m going to just try new pads and see what happens. Your at the point where people sell to avoid spending what I am pointing out you will or could soon need if everything hasn’t been done. Maybe 2500$ - 3000$ in maintenance, or 3500 if MB does it. How about the air filter and cabin filter? Another 160$. Don’t buy it unless you will maintain it right.

Thank you for advices. I did have e350 4matic 2013 and maintain myself and can do brake, strut, engine and transmission oil change. What I am afraid the car broke after few months let say engine or transmission which could be more than $5k. I knew in Texas there is law that if broke in few days you can sue and would get money back. But I didn't know how long the problem found after sales. Is it better to buy extended warranty? How long or miles is good warranty? Is it better to buy from Mercedes or third party? I knew the car is recover after stolen and he bought when it 18K miles.

Good questions, a good inspection , codes, and hard drive will tell a lot , if he has an extended warranty maybe some is left. Can you buy a warranty? I don’t know. There probably is not a transmission dipstick on the glk , my 13 is pumped up to fill from the drain hole. It’s always a risk buying used, buying someone’s problem. Maybe if you can find out who he uses as a mechanic and contact them. . I don’t have much experience with this or mb .
