Question NO power, no door lock -DOA -

I have a 2014 GLK 350 with about 50k miles. Up to now, no issues. Last night my daughter drove it to dinner. Parked. All ok. Came back an hour later and 100% dead. I thought a cell in the starter batter went bad. No door locks, no interior lights, no life at all. It was like batter was removed. 18 months old Duralast Platinum Battery from Autozone. Friend went to jump start it. Car back to life... dash lights, radio. All good. Press start button, interior lights go out, systems dim - no click @ starter. Let go of start button, dash back to normal. So alright.. dead battery - easy. Pull cables, go to lock. Dash says key not found thought window. So she gets in and try to cycle ignition thinking it is stuck in ignition cycle. Push start button. Starts right up. All normal. Drove to dorm, parked, started right back up after shut down and cycle door locks. 😳🙄
I am now lost. DOA... i can find problem. Back to normal. WTF now... really frustrating. Before i drop at MB for the mandatory 500$ fee just because we can, any ideas. I would love to get 2-3 more years min out of this car but need help with keeping it reliable. Thank you in advance for any ideas or help.

I hate to derail my post with an idea but there is that fuse in the jumper cable unit... N 000 000 006 967. I am not sure if just fuse or if relay... and got stuck in the wrong spot and jumper cables fixed it?
Not sure what that does. If still DOA, seems like a starting point but now????

Interesting... Does it have the auto start/stop function?

If so, you may want to check the auxiliary battery.

Hopefully others chime in.

In the trunk under a plastic cover to the right of the spare tire and nearer the rear seats rather than the tailgate.

Having said that, the Aux. Batt. is there for the Start/Stop system. It can be weak, dead, disconnected or removed. You'll get an Aux. Batt. warning and Start/Stop strategy will not be invoked but other than that it will not affect normal operation.

I had a battery fail in 6 months , go get it tested, I bet the battery isn’t made in USA. Did you buy an AGM battery?

no. I just purchased the platinum one from auto zone. I put s $600 Porsche battery in my 911. lasted a year. put a duralast platinum in, 66months. I dont mind paying for a great battery. just. hard to find one these days..
but the car is 100% perfect today. She is out getting errands done and start stop around town. told her. use it lot now. better to quit at 10am-3pm then 10pm. so far. 100% normal.

any ideas appreciated. I will be there in week and will get some testing done, replace secondary battery and check out car. we did replace the secondary about 2 years ago. once I saw the video I call my mechanic and he had it in notes done with service a while back. going to check it when I get there.

If you didn't get an AGM battery (Platinum or not) it will not be up to the task. Also likely is that the battery posts may not be securely fastened, which would result in the symptom(s) you're having.

I'd make sure the connections are "guten tight" and see if it happens anymore. But definitely make sure you stick with AGM battery, since there are a lot of electric gizmos that require it even with the car turned off.

It seemed to act like no voltage or a dead battery. As was just pointed out to you, yes the Posts might be loose and corroded, an AGM battery doesn’t corrode terminals because it releases almost no Hydrogen gas. Your now non AGM is also closed in with that cover accelerating Hydrogen gas corrosive effects on terminals. The glk wasn’t designed for Non AGM. 18 months is enough time to corrode terminals with a regular battery. Get the battery tested and pull the terminals and check for corrosion. Solar makes a few cheap battery load testers.

I just had my battery replaced a few months ago, I took it home and found out I was not given an AGM, the next day I had them remove the regular battery and put in AGM. AGM last twice as long , don’t spill acid in an accident, can be discharged deeply with no harm, unlike regular lead acid. AGM don’t corrode terminals. AGM never need water. There are just to many good reasons never to buy a regular battery again. Also AGM have a different charge profile. Your MB is optimized for AGM.

One more reason to buy AGM , the self discharge rate is around 70 % less than regular lead acid.

Duralast Platinum batteries are all AGMs! It's pretty hard to find low maintenance non-AGM batteries in a GLK size. I did notice when replacing my battery that most parts stores will list the H6/Group 48 size for GLKs since they 'fit' in the trays. However, my GLK250 came with a H7/Group 94R battery (pretty sure the same for V6s) which has more CCAs and storage than the H6. I've been using the Odyssey H7 battery for a few months with 850 CCAs and it has been working well.
