Brake problem

Hi there,

I just bought a 2010 GLK 350 with a a brake problem, a ?tie rod? problem, a P0128 problem.
(btw I had a rusting tuned volvo s70 1998 T5 SE)

1. The ABS light is on and when I start the car it says that the ESP is currently unavailable.
2. How can I determine if it is the upper or lower rod that is worn? Do I need to lift the car booth sides so I can move the wheel and see where it is lose?
3. The temp goes up to 80 celcius, the temp is felt all of a sudden by touching the pipes (should mean the valve is not stocked open). Where is the coolant sensor located so I can check if there is a change in Ohms when the car gets hot.

Thanks!

Check out this this thread for your P0128 error (simple search reveals more threads, BTW). Your thermostat is probably failed in the Open position, meaning your car doesn't get up to temp properly.

The ABS/ESP issue could be a number of things, most likely a bad reluctor ring at one of the wheels. Again, a simple search for ABS/ESP issues would have brought up multiple hits. Check this thread for details and a video of the job.

Take your GLK for an alignment check and they'll likely tell you which front end bit is worn.

The T-stat is supposed to regulate the engine temp to 87*C as operating temp.

80*C is low, in my opinion pointing to stuck open T-stat. Especially if it takes awhile to get to that temp.

Hi andreigbs,

I already searched but I found nothing specific to my problems...
As for the P0128 I read a text explaining how to test the coolant, it says that if the coolant is felt all of a sudden passing through the pipe instead of gradually, this mean the valve is not stucked. That is what I tried to explain in my previous post. Now I am trying to find the coolant temp sensor (I'll receive a new one wednesday, I'll start there as it is cheaper than the valve).

As for the ABS video, thanks I'll give it a look for sure !!
Also thanks for the tip about tie rod issue.

took about 3-4 minutes

I'll change the coolant temp sensor wednesday, it was only 10$cad. If it is not helping I will try changing the thermostat too.

80= 176 and that’s way to low. 90= 194. That’s about what it should be. Even at -20f it only takes about 12-15 minutes to reach temp .

coils can only misfire when hot. What do your codes read?

ok after driving it for 100km the temp line is on the 90celcius so the thermostat should be good.
I already have a cooler temp sensor but I could not figure out where it is !! (help please)

As for the brakes today I changed the front ones as well as the right tie rod.
I was not able to remove the rear discs because the emergency brakes are kind of stuck. I will try to put some loose-nut on the pivot point under the rear seats where the 'Y' is.
I did not find the adjustment dented wheel at the rear to try to lose them.
