Engine vibration
I took my 2012 GLK 350 4-Matic to my long-time reliable repair shop for an engine vibration. The vibration was most noticeable at idle and particularly noticeable at idle with the A/C. Well, I got the prognosis news yesterday: bad engine mounts. All 3 of them.
Now, I'm not doubting my servicer, but I'm still surprised. In my over 50 years of car ownership, this is the first time I've had vehicle with failed/worn out engine mounts. I kept most of my cars about 10 years, with two exceptions: I kept one for 14 years and another for 25 years. None of these vehicles had failed or deteriorated engine mounts.
So, what am I missing here. Have auto manufacturers given up part longevity for additional smoothness? Seems like regression to me. And BTW, having the 3 engine mounts replaced on a 4-Matic is VERY expensive.

The engine mounts are pneumatic and a known part to fail. It's common anytime around 80,00 miles or so. Mine are on their way out. I bought the replacements but changing them is a bit#$ on a 4matic. Yes, many hours of labor and lots of $$$.
My mechanic actually refused to do the job because it's such a pain and there's too high a chance of collateral issues.
I hope that was a little more helpful.

So, I'm right in the ball park at 71,000 miles.

I know that motor mount replacement on these cars is nasty and (as Silver Shadow mentioned) prone to collateral problems due to the number of accessories etc that need to be removed. Here is a short video that you might want to pass on to your mechanic. I can't verify the accuracy of the info but it looks entirely feasible.
I presume that your mechanic eliminated the other possible causes of vibration. There are several.

I am most happy to report that the engine and transmission mount replacements did the trick. The car is vibration free! Smooth as glass!

3.5L. what kind of mount you are going to change?
Cuz one of my mechanic told me I can use both kind and the other mechanic told me i need to use electric engine mount.
My car is 2012 GLK 200 CDI 4 MATIC. Wonder what kind you are using.

that the engine mounts were pneumatic (fluid filled). I took a look at the engine mounts and I don't see any electrical
connections to the mounts, if that helps. All I know is, the engine is now silky-smooth. I can't even feel it idle, even
when in gear and with the A/C on.
