Random warning chime

My wife recently told me of a random warning chime that happens occasionally on her '15 GLK250. I took the car for a couple of short trips and the chime (similar to the seatbelt warning) happened on the second trip. It's a single chime with no warning lights or other symptoms. Not the most serious or urgent of issues but it would be nice to fix it and earn a couple of brownie points. Any ideas would be appreciated..

We used to see this if the alternator output was unstable, but these days it's more likely the car will have a seizure instead.

Mine did that, it turned out to be the battery in the key fob was dying. Initially I didn't see an alert, but after a while, it displayed "key not found" very briefly, at the same place it usually says to not forget the keys when you turn off the car.
Gave it a fresh battery and it's not happened since.

Thank you, that sounds very plausible. My wife did see the "key not found" msg a couple of times but she assumed that the key was shielded by something in her handbag. I'll replace the battery and see if that solves it.
Appreciate the response.

Ok, now this is getting interesting, Unfortunately the key battery solution didn't work. We've kept track of the timing of the chime and it happens in the same geographic area, a block or so from our house. The only thing I can think of is that someone's home WIFI (or some other signal) is triggering a circuit in the car but I don't know if this is even possible. Maybe there's an electronics expert out there who could comment.

There is another possibility. Maybe the Nav system is trying to tell us something (even though it's off). A lot more likely than some random external signal.

No, that's a different chime. This is the most minor of annoyances and not detrimental so I'll put it to bed I think. Hope my wife agrees!

I've had that happen to me. A loud, obnoxious chime that occurs in the same place. It's caused by a personal point of interest that has been created (probably accidentally) in your nav unit. In my Command Manual the information starts on page 83. Here you can find how to delete this annoyance. If you can't find your manual you can download one.
Nobody at my dealership had a clue on what it was or how to fix it."Acoustic notification for personal POIs:

A gong sounds when the vehicle is approaching a personal POI. The function for the corresponding category must be activated for this."

Good call, thanks.
Found a function where the location of the crosshairs can be defined as a "Personal POI". This can be accepted by accidentally double clicking the control wheel. I can't guess how my wife did this because it's a couple of levels into the menu but that's just one of life's little mysteries.
