GLK 350 4matic
Transmission interchangeability

My wife's 2010 GLK 350 4matic's transfer case bearings are making a lot of noise. After searching for a local shop to replace the transmission with a used GLK transmission the only solution was a transmission with more miles than the one in my wife's car? The dealer price for replacement comes close to totaling the vehicle.

So I found a local C300 4matic transmission with low miles and need advice:

Can we interchange a 2012 C300 4matic transmission with the GLK 4matic if we swap valve bodies?

Vehicle transmission part # 204 270 61 00 80
Donor transmission part # 204 270 65 04 00

Can we interchange just the transfer case components...and can we do that in vehicle?

Any other suggestions?

Many thanks...

Have you ever found a solution to this ? My 2010 is having transmission issue as well, and I could only source 11-15 transmissions with lower mileage

Our vehicle was "ticking" so I thought the front drive universal joint was bad? The only universal joint/spindle part I found was from Poland, not an issue but a bit inconvenient. Our solution was to buy a C300 (I think that is right) transmission thinking it would be a total transmission swap. Before swapping the whole transmission I removed the transfer case in vehicle and found the universal joint was fine but the bearings were terrible. I purchased a new set of bearings for about $100? and new seals. In order to practice, I took the donor transmission apart before disassembling the transmission in the car. There is a great Youtube video showing how to disassemble the transmission transfer case. I did the job myself but would think you could find a transmission shop willing to replace bearings? Good luck, our vehicle has been running great at 185K miles.

Yep roller bearing is the weak spot in these. I replaced those on my GLK 105k miles after it developed a whining noise above 30mph.

Did you ever get an answer?

Did the swap work?

Did new bearings fix your issue?
