GLK vs Honda CRV

I've been looking at GLK's for some time now, but when I read all the posts about DPF/adblue and other problems it's kind of puts me off and I started looking at other options, especially the Honda CRV. I’ve never driven one or the other but the GLK looks more premium and probably more comfortable and capable off road(nothing extreme, snow, mud). Has anyone had a similar experience and then opted for CRV.

2015 E400 and 2015 GLK350
DPF/Adblu is only a potential issue if you plan to buy a diesel. Unless I am mistaken, CRV is not available as a diesel -- at least not in The States.

I don't think I would buy either of these two vehicles with any serious off-road use in mind. They are just small AWD sport-utility vehicles. I have a GLK, but no experience with the Honda. I would believe that once you drive them both, you will easily form your own opinion as to which is better for you.

The GLK is a nice little "truckette."

I will add that no matter what forum you look at regarding any vehicle a large majority of comments will have to do with questions or issues. If you are looking for people who chose the CRV over a GLK, you should probably ask that question on the CRV Forum, everyone here is a GLK owner. As SteveE400 pointed out, there is both a gas V6 (GLK350) and the 4 cylinder turbo diesel (GLK250) which some people have had a blue-def issue, not everyone. So if the issues around a diesel makes you nervous, look into the GLK 350, they are basically identical outside of the drivetrain. I believe the GLC 300d uses the same diesel engine as the GLK 250 along with a bunch of other cars outside of the USA.

Having owned both GLKs and prefer the torque and mileage of the GLK 250 over the horsepower of the GLK 350, this is a personal preference. I would take the time to test drive all three because they all drive differently and then decide. I really did not like the CVT transmission on the CRV for any type of hills or trying to pass other cars but that is also a personal opinion. The GLK and CRV do handle very differently, so again test drive.

How is the fuel efficiency if you compare the 250 vs 350?

The reliability of the later GLK350 equipped with the M276 gasoline engine compares favorably with the best of any vehicle built. Our 2015 GLK350 experienced only a failed crankcase vent valve in over 155,000 miles. Absolutely nothing else other than routine maintenance. Then, although you don’t plan for it, if you’re in a serious auto accident with upset, you want to be in the GLK.

The 250 diesel gets far better mileage. The 350 is not frugal on gas.
