De-Chrome

Thanks to those who replied in my other thread. The GLK had a bunch of not-so awesome chrome.

Door cup cards - Easily removable as they're hold on by double sided tape
Side molding - Easily removable as they're hold on by double sided tape
Window trim - Will have a shop wrap it in vinyl while on the car
Rear cargo sill protector - Ive read it can be removed while the bumper is on
Lower rear bumper valance - Is that removable or will they have to wrap while its on the car?
Roof rails - Are the chrome covers easy to pop off or easier to have them wrapped while on the car?
Fog light shrouds - Easily removable
Front bumper lower guard - Is that removable or will they have to wrap while its on the car?
Debadging - Debating on removing the badges or vinyl/plasti-dip. Depends on the pain condition I suppose.
Front grille - Not sure yet what to do about that.
Headlight and taillight chrome trim - Looks aftermarket and held on by tape.

I take possession of the GLK on the 21st.

Just trying to make it easier for the vinyl shop....

Looks like it has the AMG appearance pkg. That means different wheels, front and rear bumpers, among a few other things (probably sport suspension or code 485).

Most things can be plasti-dipped but won't look OE (factory) anymore. If that doesn't matter, then have at it.

The chromed plastic (pretty sure it's just plastic) on the front and rear bumpers highlight the AMG package, as do the wheels. The LED strips surround are part of the package and also likely chromed plastic.

The door handle finger guards are tacky and should be removed (if it were mine), along with the headlight and taillight trim.

The rear bumper luggage scuff protection is OE, I'd leave it. The exhaust surround is more of the AMG look stuff which is OE.

The roof-mounted luggage rack is partly metal, and the shiny part is OE. The door trims are OE as well; the lowers can be removed and the uppers (at the window base) might be replaceable with black texture ones (or wrapped).

The doors appear to have a black rubber edge guard which looks tacky IMO, I would remove those ASAP and just spot-paint any chips.

Overall the GLK looks great and has a distinct style compared to most SUVs on the road. Planning to keep ours till the wheels fall off.

Agreed to all of the above. It looks as if the PO went to Autozone and bought some stick on items. Planning on having the chrome items just vinyl wrapped....dull it down a bit. I just wasn't sure how easily a few of the items are removed. I'm sure, however, that the vinyl folks have worked on parts mounted to cars before.....was just trying to help 'em out....

Interesting....so these are the standard front/rear....whereas mine is the AMG appearance package... I kind of like the standard better. Looks like there will be some trimming involved to mount the hitch....

No black door edge guards, it’s the photograph. the suns position is accenting it. It’s not the amg, nothing stuck on, just roof wrap , rear emblems painted and metal on back wrapped.

Yes the chrome backs of door handles should be removed , that means removing door panels and handles just to get to it. The ugly silver trim on the side I painted white .

Taped yes, I thought the door handle had to come off? And doesn’t that mean removing the interior door panel as well? Or is there an easy way to get them off?

The door handle does not have to come off for installation or removal of those inserts.
