2014 GLK350 base model (active) ; 2001 E320 base (retired); 2001 Wrangler soft-top
Not shocked, and to be clear, this is a growing trend for many auto makers.

We have vowed to never buy a coup, sedan, and the like, but only small SUVs (or maybe a small pickup, like the Maverick). As we approach the "older years", it's way easier to open a door and slide across onto/ out of the seat, vs having to squat in and out.

Got rid of the E320, got rid of the 4-door Jag. Only have the GLK350 and a Wrangler.

Reminds me of a video I came across recently

It seems that we used to like to have a weekend car and then a daily, now the daily is also the weekend car. For example, the SUV coupe style vehicles, you get the practicality of an SUV to haul everything while have the styling of the coupe... sort of (depending on how you look at it though... and of course that roof line means less headroom and stuff). Seems like the market favours having everything in one package instead of a separate vehicle for a specific other purpose.

While we’re tossing out opinions, those two pieces don’t fit together for us. While the coupes I’ve had were great, I just do too much with the backseat. A sport/sporty sedan works well for me. My wife needs the SUV for carrying and passenger capacity. The SUV coupe doesn’t work for us. When (and if) we go to one vehicle, the SUV will have to be the default.

Definitely understand, everyone has different needs after all. I personally don't like SUV coupes or SUVs in general but that is really just me, I just like a good old regular sedan.
