Received a recall notice from MB for Water Pump Diagnostic and I'm not sure why. This recall is apparently a software update applied to the Engine Control Unit. But the only electronic part of the water pump system that I can think of is the Auxiliary Water Pump which circulates coolant through the heater core as a heat supplement during low-rev situations.
The recall notice says that there is no known emissions or fuel economy impact. Note that the recall involves the Water Pump Diagnostics not the Water Pump Operation. So why the recall and why is it necessary under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act? This all seems a bit strange and I'm tempted to just ignore it but maybe I'm just missing some information/brain cells.
Appreciate any opinions. I've included the main body of the recall notice.

In the USA version of the recall, there is an additional sentence in the Issue section :

However, in the rare instance this issue does occur in a vehicle, it may prevent the vehicle from passing certain state inspection requirements (e.g., California SMOG check).

I went to the MBUSA Recall webpage, entered my VIN ... the notice doesn't show up for ours (2014 GLK350 Base).

Brought my 250 in last week to the dealership for this service campaign and a CEL. Turns out I am getting a whole new DEF tank and DEF lines all covered under the AEM warranty.

Score! Your original AdBlue tank heater must've failed, requiring replacement, all under warranty. I have a pending CEL (not currently on) for the same thing.
