Knob rotation shaft replacement

I noticed that rotating the knob does nothing on my car, so I looked it up and discovered that people replace the plastic shaft with aluminum. My question is, how do you know that the shaft is broken, because mine still produces clicks when rotated, just no response in software.

Best guess - disassemble it - you've got the video showing how.

It was a broken plastic rod, the clicking meant nothing, it was still non-functional. A $10 part saved a $1k in repairs.

Appreciate the update on the problem !! Good to see the fix was a minor hit to the wallet !

What did you do, lay the broken parts on the double yellow line? Must be a rural area...

What would a dealer charge to fix it?

Just the physical knob, alone, on that thing looks bloody, overly complicated. Not like something Mercedes would design.

(he says sarcastically)

The knob alone is $500 CAD, plus labour and taxes.

These are two images of the same broken rod from a parking lot where repairs happened, the forum format stitched them together seamlessly, optical illusion eh.

Well, around here it's somewhat rural, but if you laid them out on a road with a double yellow line you'd probably end up Flat Bob.

Mercedes-Benz GLK 220CDI/4MATIC/AMG
I was changing the part today.
First I lost turning wheel, its a year ago. So, I ordered the new part- For 2 weeks ago - its malfunction when I should write letter in searching Map, it just went crazy. When I write 2 letters and Choose the streetname, Command ask me if I want delete it. Course I dont..
SO - today I got it, and opened it, and axel was broken, yes. I change Axle, and put all together and tried again, Then turning wheel working, but nothing else. I could only change station in radio, neither Right-Left - front-back or Pull button was working.

Seems like something more have happens into there.-------can be broken cable, or broken printcard. Any who can think about whats happened ?
