Remove exhaust driveline center bearing
it appears that the entire exhaust system (including catalytic converters right up to the engine) has to be removed to replace flex discs and center bearing on 2010 GLK 350.
Is this correct?
Can anyone point me to instructions?
Thanks!
Here's a video showing the process (though it's for a more involved job that requires relocating the propshaft... Start watching at about 4:00 for the part you'll need, ending at about 14:00 (for the removal)).
Note that I didn't bother pulling the propshaft the rest of the way out (since I didn't need to in order to service the transfer case), but it would have been a pretty trivial process (suggest lifting / pushing from the center). If you did want to get more clearance you could just pop the rubber hangers off the mounts on the rear of the exhaust and let it droop a bit.
One other tip that's VERY important - before taking the shaft apart to replace the CSB, mark the two ends so you can get them back in the original alignment. You could open up a whole ugly can o' worms if you forget this step. In the video, I did mention marking the flex discs and yokes at each end, though I'm not 100% sure it's really necessary - but easy, and better safe than sorry.
