2014 GLK250 starter replacement?

So for some reason there isn’t a corner of the internet that has information on replacing the starter on a 2014 glk 250, seems no one’s ever had to do it. Repair manual is useless hardly explains how, dealer wants $2100 , from what I’ve seen you have to remove the catalytic converter? Anyone have any videos, info, anything? Thanks !

That's a crazy high quote for a starter that can be had for around $250. Even a genuine MB starter is under $600. Get a quote from an independent garage.

Yea that dealer is a crook, FCP Euro is where to buy a starter, they might have a link to instructions, but since they rarely fail first look into bad corroded wiring connections. Do you have an AGM battery? Terminals will only corrode with a regular non AGM . Has battery tested good? Voltage is good ? Fcp has a lifetime warranty, once I went through 7 regular auto parts store starters! That was a headache , but the mechanic did it for free, then got a new supplier.

battery is good, voltage was good, confirmed good relays, was just clicking (just like a bad starter) dealership confirmed bad starter and even an independent shop today quoted $1500 for repair

On many cars, dropping the front part of the exhaust system on one side would be a big task. On the GLK (at least on my 2011) it's really not a big deal. Two easy to reach bolts up front, and one clamp on the back, and a couple bolts on the side of the cat holding it to the mounting bracket. Maybe a 15 minute job (at least after you've done it once).

I've attached a video that shows how to drop just the right side cat (front half of the exhaust) - just skip through to that part. If anything, the left side is easier, with better access to the O2 sensors and manifold / cat bolts, and the tail of the pipe at the rear doesn't extend as far into the rear section pipe.

thank you I’ll check it out! I planned on having it towed back to my house and trying it myself, I got a service manual (the actual dealer pdf) and it’s utter garbage. Has 1 picture and less then 200 words explaining how to replace the starter. “Disconnect battery, remove cat, replace starter” so vague. My 01 accord takes 25 minutes to replace the starter and I’ve got 4 pages of a manual alone for just that replacement. This is why I’ll never buy a newer car. I’ll stick with my 83 bmw and 01 accord till I die

I've never had to think about the starter on my 2011 (haven't had it all that long), but I suspect that once you do get the cat out of the way, it's probably not difficult. Just make sure to disconnect that battery first (or it could get very interesting). ;-)

Did anybody figure this out? My starter went bad. I checked battery, all connections and relay. is the starter by the CAT because I can't seem to locate it. Does anyone have a diagram?
