Oil Type GLK350
Hi all,
Vehicle is 2010 GLK350, 108kmiles (175k km).
I watched a YouTube video about how to check for “balancer” wear in engine. In comments, someone recommended 0WXX oils in these vehicles to help protect the balancer, and stated that MB also recommends 0W oils, although the user manual states differently.
Anyone have any opinion?
I have been using a 5W40 229.5 and wonder if I should switch to 0W40. Vehicle is used in mild Canada winters some but mostly summer use.
Thanks!

I believe that the years affected by the infamous balance shaft issue ended at 2008 - certainly not a big issue with the GLK engines in the US.
The viscosity of the oil MB recommend is based on the temperature range the vehicle is operated in. You can find that chart in your owner's manual.

Agree with habbyguy, it's not a big issue.
As long as the oil is MB 229.5 spec, use whatever viscosity range (from any brand) that applies to your climate. While the most popular will be 5W40, you can find and safely use 0W40 as well.
In fact, Mobil1 0W40 is a long-time favorites for Euro gassers, but that Motomaster will be fine as well. As long is says it is approved (not simply "meets or exceeds") you're good to go.

2013 GLK 350 4 matic
Just had oil changed 2 days ago with Liquid Moly 5w - 40 and car runs so smooth, or is just my imagination? Bought a litre to have in the car, for trip coming up, at Napa wow very costly.
Motor master oil is made by shell and the Euro formula is approved oil.

Thanks all. I agree with the recommendations and will stick with a Motomaster 5W40 MB 229.3/5. Working well so far.
PS looked in the cam sensor holes today and no signs of balancer issues, and would not expect with the 2010 model year.
