Heated Seat Option Swap?

Recently discovered that heated front seats were a stand alone option on the 2011 GLK. Not certain if they were available in 2010 but if so, is the GLK pre-wired for that option? Could swapping out the standard seats for the heated version just a plug & play? I know, dreaming... TIA!

It's easy enough to check - look at my video at around 1:30 - you'll see the connection for the heated seats. If your seat panel has that connector, you should be good to go. OTOH, if you don't have the seat heater buttons on the dash....

I've done the swap, none of the wiring was already in place. You need to run wires to the front sam for the switches themselves, then wires from the seats to the rear sam. Also need to code the rear sam to enable the heated seats. Overall not a terrible job but it's a pain if you can't pull the harnesses from a donor car.

Or move to south central Texas, where heated seats are not required and unheard of 😀

Calder-cay, you call TX "heat"? Come on over to Arizona sometime. I can tell you I've never thought to hit that heated seat button anywhere near my home address! ;-)

The other thing I'd add is to translate from "angryartichoke" to "mere mortal". When he said "not a terrible job", it would translate to me to "run, screaming for your life and stab yourself with a screwdriver until giving up the idea of installing heated seats".

I've found that these cars don't typically have any extra wiring installed. I wanted to install a rear cigar lighter receptacle and none of the wiring was there, in fact the section in the rear fuse box was not even there.

Thank you one & all for the replies! On various vehicles I have owned over the years, often extra wiring harnesses are in place for other options not ordered, hence my query. The centre stack does not have the bun warmer switches so it sounds to me that this is one project I will not pursue. And yes I am familiar with hot weather as I do live near Tucson. However, the Mrs. has from time to time, during the cooler days of December & January, has wished that her car was so equipped. A happy wife is a happy life! Thank you again!
