Picked up an oil filter for my M272 last week at the local MB parts dept for $14.98 + tax. I usually would buy them online at FCP but had nothing else to buy so would cost more with shipping.
Gave me a Starparts filter.
Filter for the other engine is $29.50 at my dealer. Seams expensive, probably worth looking for the Purflux filters online.
Yeah, I've found that I get most if not all of the oil with the extractor. I think the area under the dip stick tube is a little well to make that happen. measured the oil I got out and it was within a few ounces of the published capacity.
Do it with hot oil (not too hot or the tube will collapse!) and you'll get everything you could get through the drain plug. If you have sludge that can't be extracted, draining it with the plug isn't going to fix anything.
Because it was my first oil change on this Mercedes, I decided to go to the dealer and purchase the parts. The dealer is about half a mile from my place!
The oil filter was overpriced! $39.9 including taxes ): I also purchased the MANN Filter I plan on using on the next oil change!.
You can find the original filter on Amazon for about $21.
The Mercedes-branded oil ( w5-40 ) price was not bad, $10 per liter, the total was $74.20 per 7 liters. I purchased an extra liter.
At Walmart, you can get 10 liters of Mobil 1 ( 0-40)FS European Car Formula Full Synthetic Motor for about $57.

For us in central Texas, we would not use 0-40. We buy 5-40 Mobil 1 at Wally World for $24.00 usd for the 5 qt container.
I buy the Mann HU725z filter for $15.00 USD at the local auto parts - yes, drive up walk in and buy it... no wait for an online order ($21 seems overpriced)

I drove my car for an hour looking for parts, then parked it and let it cool down for about an hour.
The engine was hot when I got back to the car, and that plastic house from the oil extractro was very hot when I pushed it in and out to get the oil.
To get the car to running temperature, turn on your car and let it run for 5 minutes, and it should be ready to go. Make sure the vehicle is on flat ground.

Reading thru listings for oil extractors most say max oil temp should be 140 degrees F/ 60 degrees C.
I start my car and let it get to operating temp, can tell the thermostat opened, then shut the car off. The oil does not seem that hot, im guessing the coolant heats quicker. Sometimes i wish I let the car run longer.

Dont know if it was mentioned that if you have the M272 engine that uses the 0001802609 (Mann HU7185X) filter the smallest o-ring that comes with it will replace the o-ring at the top of the dipstick. On my M272 engine I always have two o-rings left over, the larger and smaller ones. Then I realized the smaller one fits perfectly on the dipstick.
And to fill the oil I just put it in the oil filter housing before putting the filter one. Easier than putting it in the smaller filler hole.
