2013 GLK350 (X204) 4Matic driver mirror disassembly

Anybody know how to take the driver's mirror apart in my '13 GLK350 4Matic? I see no release points to begin deconstruction. One entry here indicated a little hole underneath to begin popping things apart - nope.

Ideas please?

You may need to first pop out the mirror itself, by aiming it down all the way and then starting with a plastic pry tool around the top of the mirror. Once removed, you should be able to disassemble the housing by removing a few Phillips screws. I seem to remember the painted exterior of the housing slides directly up while the rest of the base (the part that folds in) stays in place.

What are you trying to achieve exactly? Hopefully this parts diagram helps you see the separate pieces: here

Many thanks, andreigbs, that's great info.

The mirror housing keeps rotating outward a little bit further each time I turn the car on and go over 46 km/hr. After about 10 starts, the housing would be fully rotated outward if not moved back into correct position each time. To avoid rotation into the wrong position, you have to rorate the housing so it is a little bit too far inward, then when you go above 46 km/hr it rotates outward into the correct position. You have to do this every time you go for a drive.

I have tried many things to try and get it sorted out, no luck. If I push the button to fold the mirrors, they fold normally. The passenger housing will reopen into normal position, but the driver's housing always continues rotation outward, not stopping at the normal position. In essence, it looks like the housing is pointing forward.

I was thinking to see if there is anything broken inside, I bonked the mirror lightly from below last winter and this then began happening.

Has anyone else removed the mirror from the housing to confirm before I go yanking at it?

Insight is welcome.

Many thanks!

The mirror is held by three clips if I recall. I recently installed LED bulbs on my white GLK350 during the summer. Once you remove the mirrior and wiring, you can lift up on the painted housing cap verticially. For more additional instructions you can look at w212 or w204 mirror removals. Below is from my black GLK350.

Gently pry it off along the perimeter with a plastic wedge of some sort.
