Blind spot assist inoperative

Just an FYI that might help others:

Last winter parked GLK outside in rain/wind for 4-5 days and came back to "Blind spot assist inoperative" on the dash and turn signals not working. Went away after 20-30 min with engine restart and was all good after that.
This winter did the same while I was on vacation and same issue but persisted for 2 days.

Did some research and the cause is with the radar sensors attached on the inside of the rear bumper on the left and right side. Others online had the same problem with apparently a service bulletin on them. They are not well sealed and not protected under the bumper which causes moisture to get into the units/cables and cause corrosion.
Some were lucky and Mercedes covered the replacement. not cheap...

Mine didn't look too bad so I removed them, cleaned them, sealed them with silicone, cleaned the contacts, and used dielectric grease on the connection. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. If it does I will have to replace the units.

I think we need to replace both of our sensors - is it necessary to remove the rear bumper, or are the sensors accessible that way? Is there perhaps a removal guide somewhere?

Many thanks in advance

No need to remove bumper. Quite easy to remove. Just one clip holding them vertically and the plug. Took a bit of work to get the cable off because of all the dirt etc. Used a screwdriver to help pry it slowly a millimetre at a time.

Thanks for the good news, I'll wait until it gets a bit warmer here (or stops raining) and remove the sensors .
