Shifting to Park on it's own

I am having the same problem as this thread

https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...wing-down.html

My 2015 GLK 250 randomly shifts to park on it's own while coming to a stop. According to my research it is likely the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS). If I am lucky it could be an internal problem with the module that needs to be resoldered. I have parked the car for now and will tackle it this weekend.

FWIW, if possible, use a MB-capable bi-directional scan tool to see if the car thinks the key is in (or not) when the issue pops up. Of course, this can be difficult if it's extremely intermittent... but maybe you could start the car and just tap on the area around the key slot to see if you can induce a "state change" in the key status (indicating an intermittent, possibly mechanical fault).

Wow ... I forgot I participated in that thread.

For me, purely by habit (Jeep +other vehicles), I was in the GLK and slowly creeping up to the mailbox (we live in the country, so mailbox is far from house) and I opened the driver's door as I was up on the mailbox ... holy smoke!! The GLK came to a dead stop! When I say creeping, I walk faster than the GLK was moving. I understand - safety feature.I did not know it has that feature

Anyway , one more thing to consider ... door open feedback to the computer.

I found a bit of time to look into the issue. I tried several times to duplicate the issue by banging the dash near the ignition switch but the problem would not occur. I scanned for codes with my XTool D7S and found that I had error codes for driverès door lock actuator and rear hatch actuator. The number of codes seems to correlate to the number of times the car has shifted into park. There were no door or hatch open indications on the instrument cluster for any of these incidents. I decided to remove the EIS just to see if there was anything obvious and to at least clean it. It was way easier than I thought. Just remove the wood trim panels where the air vents are, then remove the plastic trim surrounding the instrument cluster. There is a hole below this trim where the EIS can be removed. The connectors are a bit hard to remove and reconnect but not crazy.

Again, I now think my problem is a door lock issue. The next time it occurs I will pull over and scan it immediately. I already cleared all the codes and they have not reappeared yet.

Sounds likely and logical. Please let us know how it works out when you do finally drive a wooden stake through the problem's evil heart...
