Updating the old UMI to the new system

I personally think he was full of s***.. We'll soon find out...
Anybody know how easy it would be to add the camera feature to UMI?
Our other MB's all seem to have secret codes (command versions)... has anybody discovered hacks for UMI. Not that I ever did much with command.
However, from what I recall it didn't say which version/date. I do seem to recall that the GLK may already have the latest ones released for the US, but don't have a link. So it may get you newer maps than came with a couple of year old C-class, for example, but may not help the maps in the GLK. IIRC the latest version I saw was from late 2009 and I couldn't find a reference to 2010 maps being released.
Also something I read on a European M-B site regarding the UMI update seemed to indicate that it might just be newer European maps (not US ones), but it may have been a discussion for a Europe-specific UMI update, if there is such a thing.
Look forward to any info from F18Ben on that.
As far as warranty coverage for that, I saw that Europe also got 3 years of free map updates per an M-B press release. This seemed to be due to people complaining about buying expensive cars and then being charged for maps every year. This may have been for the E-class IIRC. With a few options you can get the GLK somewhat near E pricing territory...

Hi F18BEN,
I have a GLK350 (2010) with the (what I assume to be) old UMI + Audio 20 that did not have the Nav upgrade.
From your posts am I correct in understanding that part number A204 8707696 will update my UMI to include the navigation function? When you updated your UMI, did you simply plug in the USB stick while the car was running to update?
Any help is appreciated... and thank you!

I was on the original UMI software. My system used to say "Universal Media Interface" when it booted up. Now it says "Audio 20 Navigation". Graphics don't seem that much better, but the responsiveness is WAY better. Light and day.
Nice upgrade for $200.
The only terrible thing about the UMI Nav option is that the directions are not muted when using bluetooth telephony or the radio is on.
