More delays for GLS diesel?
We've been eyeing the new 350d for its higher mileage. But just as we were deciding to go on a test drive, we find this -
Daimler Shares Slide on U.S. Emissions Investigation
"Daimler had previously told analysts at BNP Paribas that it had suffered delays in getting emissions certification for some variants of the GLS and GLC sports utility vehicles, a function of additional scrutiny in the aftermath of the VW scandal."
and again today -
Volkswagen Takes $18 Billion Hit Over Emissions Scandal...
"Separately, Daimler said late on Thursday the U.S. DoJ had asked it to investigate its emissions certification process for vehicles.
Finance chief Bodo Uebber declined to elaborate on what prompted the investigation when Daimler published earnings for the first three months of the year on Friday.
"We cannot go into details," he told reporters as Daimler said first-quarter operating profit fell 9 percent, hit by launch costs for its new E-Class and currency swings.
Daimler said on Thursday it was cooperating with U.S. authorities and would "investigate possible indications of irregularities and of course take all necessary actions.""
Guess this could, at a minimum, delay shipments into the later part of the year? Thoughts?

If only they would compare American diesel emissions to imported. They are much less stringent on them. Its kind of the same reason Toyota has not produced a diesel truck for the US. The import tax on that would be astronomical, mainly because they want to keep that market cornered with American diesels. It sad really.
