My apologies tery, the dealer did not, in fact, receive a diesel. It's a 450 that was optioned the same as what I had on the 350. They informed me that diesels will not be available until the end of the year... is their best guess. What a cluster *uc. Perhaps the mods can delete this thread...

GLS350d...
As of today the GLS350d is not shown as available on the MBUSI website. It does show the GLC 300d however so they are offering the 4cylinder diesel anyway.
Makes we wonder also what is next for the V6 diesel anyway as I was reading the next gen is going back to inline 6 based on the just released OM654.
Could also have big implications to the Sprinter lineup as the OM642 is the "upgrade" option engine.

Interesting thread. I've been planning on getting the GLS350d for the longest time, but have also been thinking about the 450. I guess now that they're no longer available, that kind of settles that.
Come to think of it, the 450 had a few things going for it anyway. It gets the offroad package. If you crunch the number the fuel economy is a moot point really; with the costs of ad blue it all evens out. And if you add emissions related repairs, diesel actually loses out. Plus I've heard from someone that's driven both the GLS350d and GLS450 that the new 9 speed transmission seemed to work better in the 450. So I guess 450 it is. Ahhh, life is so much easier when you don't have a choice anyway.

I sent an inquiry to MBUSA via their website over the weekend regarding the availability of the GLS350D. I got a response yesterday that said that it will be available in the US in the 4th quarter of 2016.

It's in the hands of the Fed's - has nothing to do with MB - it is hoped that the GLS350d's manufactuered in Mar/April/early May will receive approval - but approval is in the hands of the Fed's who so far have approved nothing - and can't even give the specs for new approvals - VW clusterfrack ..

Just a question about the 350d. I've looked at other countries where it's available and there's no mention of bluetec. Did they drop the bluectec additive on the new 350d? It still has the same engine though.

DEF fluid was required to meet US emissions standards. May not be required in other countries depending on what their regulations are. For example, the whole VW mess is mostly over their 4 cylinder that did not use the fluid. Also look into Mazda's diesel that was supposed to come here but still hasn't because they can't meet US specs w/o it. And once the system is fitted to the cars, price goes up and performance goes down to unacceptable levels to be competitive here.

In the US now DEF is required for ALL diesels at/over 60hp - auto or industrial.
The VW mucked up the works because VW was able to defraud the Fed's and the Fed's didn't catch it..

At the end of last month, BMW rcv'd EPA approval for the 2017 diesels. 3 series, 5 series, X3, and X5 are good to go. Hopefully won't be too much longer for MB to get their green light.

Well.. the actual late July BMW dealer bulletin is that the 2017 BMW diesels are "delayed into late Fall - date yet to be determined - updates will be posted when Federal approval status is clarified"...

Nope, no offense taken. I was talking to a friend yesterday and he said the something similar. They are not yet able to place an order in the system but were told internally that the sedans and wagons are good to go to order. Wasn't sure on the suv's.
