Roof Rack Cross Bars

Anyone had any luck fitting crossbars on a 2017 GLS? Thule, Yakima, nor Whispbar list a fit for the 2017.

Alternately, does anyone know how similar the shape and spacing of the 2017 side rails differs from previous years?

If it fits the GL (X166) it will fit the GLS. They have the same shape and spacing.

I had the Yakima bars and now I have the OEM ones. The Yakima ones were great but they didn't accommodate opening of the pano roof. The profile of the Yakima bars was very low. I got the OEM ones and I am very happy with them.

About how high above the rails do MB bars sit? The garage is going to be a tight fit with the ski box on, so I'm looking for the lowest profile bar that fits.

about 5 inches. I cannot get into my garage with the ski box on. The Thule whispbars are very noisy. I returned them a day after I got them. The yakima aero blades are excellent and have a very low profile. Just remember not to open your pano roof with them installed.

5" is way too high for my needs. Thanks for confirming.

Want to make sure I'm tracking with you on the other bars you liked - I think Thule makes the Aero Blades, while yakima makes both the Whispbar as well as a bar that looks similar to the Thule. Im guessing it was the Whispbar that you had and liked as it appears to be the most low profile. Can you confirm?

The Thule Aerobldes were too noisy. They made a wisteling wind noise which was extremely annoying. The Yakima whispbars were very quiet and had a low profile.
Sorry if I confused the names in my previous post.

interesting. I just fitted the Thule aeroblade bars [ shaped like a wing], same shape as we have on the Cayenne to the GLS. I was surprised, as it was noisier than the Cayenne! They are dead silent on the Cayenne.

Maybe its the mount, the same as on our old X5.
I might move them back a bit further. You just assume that because the GLS looks like a brick wall on wheels its aerodynamics are the same!
