Center console is burning HOT!!!

We just purchased a new GLS450 about a month ago and last night I grabbed my sunglasses out of the bottom storage area (the one under the heating controls). My sun glasses were burning hot and when I reached my hand inside to feel it I couldn't touch it. Going to call the dealer today but has anyone else had this problem? The car was running for about 45 minutes before we noticed this. Thanks..

I have noticed this too-extremely hot. I left my key in there once and after about an hour of driving the car freaked out saying no key detected.

I checked on mine during use and could not feel anything. The area wasnt hotter than any other piece of the center console... I have a GLS350d without heated cup holder. Do you guys have the heated/cooled cup holders?

The heated cup holder was not on at the time.i did check it 2 more times after that and it was not hot.. I'll keep my eye on it now everyday to see if it happens again.

New GLS450 here. I've driven about 2,000 miles in the Colorado mountains in the last month and haven't noticed any heat in the dash storage bin.

I have the same problem. I also have the heated cupholders.

What was the issue, dealer they never heard of the issue before.

Did anyone get this fixed? I would like to know what it is to help expedite the process.

The posts on this thread are made during cooler months in North America. None of the posts were made during warm months.

I noticed my console was rather warm, and found that by closing the rear seat air registers it solved the problem. When warm air is called for, as it is during cooler weather, the console is warmed by warm air flowing through a duct in the console, supplying the rear seat registers.

The suggestion is to be sure the rear seat registers are affirmatively closed.

GS2020, did you affirmatively check the console vents for the rear passenger are closed, and conduct a test?

no we did not check rear vents - did not know we should. We live in FL and air conditioning was running, not heat.

Do a test where you fully and firmly close the console registers at the rear of the console. Then operate the climate control for an extended period. I have been in Florida plenty of times when the heat was needed in the morning. Not nearly as often as in the north!

again, this was when outside air was 78 and air was running to cool inside - it was not cold out!

Happens on mine when I operate the cup holder coolers. In Florida. It was so bad on one trip that I had to put a pillow between the console and my legs. Must have been 150 degrees or more.

chassis- you were right! Issue was that vehicle came from factory with rear vents closed and heat setting on HI, so even though air was working in front row, heat was being sent to second row but vents were closed so heat accumulated in console. Sales people and I did not think to look for that stupid set up from factory 😪

Hi all,
I just took my '17 GLE to the dealer in Wisconsin. Very cold here in winter and we have been having this heat issue (161 Degrees F in coin pocket under the dash), and i brought in the car with the issue present.
MB Dealer said they have never seen this before, so they took apart the whole center console/dash to investigate.
They found nothing wrong with ducting/assembly, but they also replicated the problem on 2 different cars.
They concluded this was normal when running heater for long periods, especially if vents are closed.
(FWIW they did not charge anything for this service)
