Good deal on GLS450 and trade in?
Hey MBWorld, wanted to get some of your thoughts on this deal. We have a baby on the way, so we're trading in the wife's 2017 Fiat Abarth we bought 4 months ago (~4500 miles on it now) and replacing it with an SUV. Been talking to my local dealership for the past couple days and working out a deal on a 2017 GLS450 with a decent amount of options. We still owe ~19k on the Abarth. They low-balled us hard on the trade in initially offering 13k. I told them this was completely unacceptable, eventually they went up to 19k on that basically cancelling the trade in from the deal. I'm not sure there is much more wiggle room on that from looking at prices of similar used Abarths. The sticker price on the GLS450 is $79,190. They're offering 6k off putting us at $73,190. With taxes and fees $81,233 out the door. I definitely feel like there is more wiggle room on the price, but the deal doesn't seem terrible either. They brought out the GM to talk to me for a bit and try and press me for a "yes" but I told them I'd take this price home and give it some thought. Gonna talk to another nearby dealership and show them the current offer I have in hand and see if they'll do better. Anyone have any input on these numbers? Where should I go from here?

recommend you look at a CPO model. It would have a 100,000 mile warranty and probably at least 10,000 cheaper. I was looking at a ML in 2016 and found a 2015 ML that was a CPO with 9,000 miles. It was about 10,000 cheaper than a new 2016

Well....
Frankly - I am surprised you even hesitated to snap up that deal... if you "shop" for a CPO you will have to eat.bury about $4K-$5K negative on yoiur "Abarth".
Remember - when the 17's are gone - they are gone - and you won't get anywhere close on the '18's..
If the GLS has the gear you want - go back tmrw and zip up your deal and drive your GLS home...

I bought a 2017 for my wife about 6 weeks ago. MSRP was around $82 and I was able to negotiate $10 off. You can definitely do better than $6k off, however, as others have posted, 2017 stock is getting smaller and smaller and it would be difficult to get the same kind of a discount on 2018. Tough call, but I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
