I have same set of wheels and will plan to use on our new GLS550 in the winter. I assume no issues in mounting. Can you pass on where you’re getting spacers or can I order with you?

I haven't found any companies that make spacers for the GL (bolt on ones, anyway). I'm planning to order some to be custom made by a machine shop. I'll post on here to update how that goes.

BTW, if someone wanted the most luxurious riding GL it would have to be a 450 on 19 inch wheels with...wait for it....active curve. I'd be wiling to bet this spec is a unicorn. Nobody gets active curve on a 450, let alone one with the 19 inch wheels. But that would provide the best ride, since the sway bars are essentially disconnected when not in a corner with the active curve suspension.

absolutely correct!
Regardless this whole conversation borders on the absurd since on the 550, comfort rivals the S class arguably the best riding car on the planet. I think a lot of people here equal squishy, tippy and floaty to comfort.

It doesn't border on the absurd. If I wanted to feel every bump and vibration in the road I'd have gotten an Escalade, and truth be told, 550 on 21 is closer to escalade than a 550/450 on 19s.

Because that's what comfort IS. Try a RR to verify what comfort is supposed to be about.

'normal' 19" MB wheels have an ET of 62 on 8.5" width, while 'wide' wheels are ET 46 on 10" width. So compensating for the 1.5" in wheel width, you'd need 17 mm+19 mm = 36mm to roughly end up where MB thinks you should with an AMG exterior package. That's a lot of spacer. I prefer the right wheels . 9" or 9.5" wide rims with an ET of 35-40 should be about right. I have some 20" on order, but it'll be a week or 2 before I can post pics.

Taller wheels have shorter side-walls.
Shorter side-walls transmit more road surface irregularities than smaller diameter wheels.

So, if you want S-class comfort, go with 19" (or 18") wheels.

Probably true, but again it might not differ at all. As I have pointed out and, if you read the reviews, the 550s ride is a third world despot's wet dream. The 19 inch, 55 ratio tires are also narrower, both characteristics amplify the vehicle's top heavy character. I think that avoiding the 21 inch setup without having driven it is foolish. Another difference between the 550 and 450 is that the 550 includes ADS as standard another feature which enhances comfort and agility regardless of wheel size.
