Headrest Monitors
Interesting note after purchasing a 2018 GLS 450. The MB website indicates that the monitors are $1400 in the "build your vehicle" portion, yet the dealership is charging $4200 for the same units.
Has anyone purchased aftermarket monitors for this vehicle? If so, which brand is best?

Not sure where you are seeing $1,400 but the "Rear Seat Entertainment System" is $1,950 on the MBUSA.com site for the GLS 450. Buy yourself (or your children) a couple iPads and save your money.

There are two post-factory "systems" from MB - the "accessory" rear DVD's which play thru headphones - which can be installed into any GLS - or the "factory equivalent system" which requires the GLS to have Rear-Entertainment pre-wiring to connect back up to/thru the front COMAND headunit - which can play source material from the front, and which can take rear content and play thru the COMAND system.
Yes - with labor the "factory equivalent" system if you have factory pre-wiring will be north of $4K installed - parts alone from MB cost a arm-n-both-legs and labor intensive job even with pre-wiring from the factory.
If you don't require front cabin control of rear content - and if you don't "need" to play rear content audio over the sound system - a GREAT suggestion is a couple of iPads and about $60 in a pair of mounts

I'm going to try to pick up one of these up today. If I understand it correctly, you load content onto an SD card and that can be streamed in car to devices. BTW I have no connection to Playon. Great software. I have direct CAT6 cable connecting my router to my desktop and Bluray player. The Bluray player can "see" the Playon app as if it were a channel. I can access stored content from the desktop upstairs to play on the TV downstairs. I have 9 years of HD video stored on the desktop. So I can call up the bubble net feeding whales I videoed in Alaska or any other video that I want. Very convenient.

Correct. The system on the MB website is $1950. Point being, I still don't understand the insane mark-up to $4200 from my dealership.

Woa cowboy - the dealer isn't the culprit here - the higher cost in large part is that Mercedes charges the dealer much/much more for the equipment than Mercedes charges for the same equiptment factory installed - the "mark-up" is from Mercedes parts to the dealer -not your dealer - - it is a extensive equipment list by the way - and dealer install is quite labor intensive - like on the full system about 6-7 genuine hours in the shop...
