New 2019 GLS - Not what I wanted - but here it is

I am still AMAZED that LED headlights are not standard. I for one will be moving to Audi for sure. The current GLS platform is outdated inside and out.

If you're like I was a few years back and intrigued by the Q7, by all means check it out. Beautiful interior, no doubt. Great infotainment. Incredible vehicle. But you'll find a pretty worthless third row and a very stodgy exterior you can't do anything about, save for some aftermarket mods.

Exactly my point, if MB does show a “lightly veiled concept” GLS Maybach at the Beijing Motor Show this month and a "production" Maybach in late November at the Los Angeles Auto Show as several site have reported, they would most certainly show the production X167. And to be clear, myself and others weren't pulling X167 predictions out of thin air. MB could simply have made a change in plans and needed more time for the new model. Regardless, there were a lot of signs pointing to the X167 as 2019. This conversation may change again before the end of this year.

is it possible that Maybach will be the intro of the new GLS with full production of GLS models to follow? But that means the factory needs to produce two different models at same time - doesn’t seem likely.
But also doesn’t seem likely to introduce Maybach on x166 only to change it the following year???

Wow, just like I said months ago, the 2019 will be the SAME as the 2018. It amazes me how clueless some of you guys are about Mercedes if you claim to be a fan of the brand. Why on earth would you think the 2019 model would be all new for 2019 and they haven't even shown the replacement for the older GLE yet? Not sure why that was so hard to understand 5 months ago.

M, your opinion of when the model is introduced doesn't distinguish you from about 99.9% of people opining on the subject. People in these boards, and literally nowhere else, moved their timeline forward because were encouraged by some intel that led them to believe a surprise intro was coming. This was despite the fact an intro didn't really line up with forthcoming car shows, sales trends, etc. People were hopeful for a surprise. Hope is good. No need to smugly denounce it.

I never said the Maybach production model is shown before the GLS model. I said the GLS production model could be shown by end of summer 2018, and the MayBach GLS shown at LA Auto Show. GLS could launch Q2 2019 for sale, and Maybach could launch later half of 2019.

I understood what you were saying. There's likely more to this than we know and you could be right, we'll probably see the production X167 in a few more months. The 2019 X166 may end up being manufactured for only 1/2 a year with an early change-over to the 2020 X167. Who knows, except of course for Germancar1 (just kidding M).

Wrong... Inside the GLS has the same tech as the latest C class. Mechanically the Q7 doesnt hold a candle to a GLS 550, its much slower, doesnt really sit seven, it it doesnt ride as comfortably, and it handles similarly. In fact the only thing the Q7 has better than a GLS 550 is a nicer digital instrument panel, they are simply in a different category altogether. Trust me I drove them both extensively before choosing. The Q7 is nice compared to an MDX or a Cadfilac thats about it.

Smart marketing from BMW of their upcoming X7:
MB best pay close attention as the X7 could result in a lot of lost customers waiting for the X167.

So seems the new GLS here - just got the call from my dealer to come in and order / build my new model GLS as I'm number 1 at dealer for delivery on the new model - was waiting for new one for a while - see no sense in ordering old model - this will be my third GL - awesome truck which I expect this time around will be even better than first 2 versions

So that's not what my dealer said
I'll let him know I want the X167 model and not the current X166
He lead me to believe it was the new model as he knows I've been holding out for that one
I thought MB was rushing the X167 for 2019 to compete with the BMW X7 - at lease that's the word I got
I wouldn't bother with the current shell

Fab did NOT fabricate anything. He shared insider info which we wouldn't otherwise have know about. MB simply changed their minds and delayed the release of X167 until MY20. He's a true insider that benefits this forum and he only shares what he hears. It's not his fault the plan changed.

I was at BMW's Performance Center a few weeks ago (across the street from the factory in SC). The X7 is definately ready. They had several of them out on the street and also on the track.

The Q7 does not start at $98K you cannot compare it to a 550. I have a 450 and I drove the Q7 and I can tell you it's a superior vehicle to the 450. The interior is years ahead of the GLS 450 and 550. The 550 may have a better engine but you cannot compare it to the Q7. I'll also definitely look at the upcoming X7. Looks very promising.
If you do go with a Q7 I would highly recommend the Air Suspension package...it comes with a pretty amazing 4 wheel steer system. If you ever find a dealer that has one (they are hard to find) say you want to test drive it...it turns super tight circles (but feels a bit disconcerting at first), turns are impressive and lane changes seem much easier.
