I do NOT have a front plate. I've been fine in Cincinnati but Columbus, OH will ticket -but maybe only when parked - I'm not sure they'll pull you over for it. We stay away from street parking there.
An answer to your question, Minnesota is very strict about having a front license plate and the cops will pull you over to ticket you for not having one.

Yes, all the new car dealers here drill through the plastic on the front bumper and place a bracket for the front license plate. I am sure you can find another way to attach yours. Again, enjoy your beautiful new ride.
Drive my 2017 GLS550 in So CA, in Orange County no issue due to number of “high end” cars on the roads here. LA county is different story, they ticket in parking locations, even ticket in LAX parking lots. Normally don’t take it to LA if going to park for many hours in public parking.
Congrats on your 550, looks great. Mine is Cardinal Red, porcelain designo with night package. Gets a lot of comments from people.
