GLS B&O

I have a 2018 GLS 550 with a B&O sound system and Active Curve. Absolutely love the car but have run into a serious snag. The B&O amplifier is placed in the spare tire compartment and causes the removal of the expandable spare. I have the little 12v compressor and the can of fix a flat. The 21 inch tires are a not a common tire. As a result if I lose one it can be 3 or 4 days for a replacement. Also, since I live in Arizona there are a ton of places you don’t want to lose a tire without a spare. Short of buying a Navigator which has a 20 Speaker Revel and a Full size spare, which cranks down from under the car, I’m wondering what some of my options might be, that I haven’t considered?I wonder if a high end Auto Audio Place might be able to move the Amp into the passenger compartment.? Any useful ideas would be appreciated.

Run flats an option? Doesn't it come with them?

No runflats either from MB or after market.

Any desire to downsize to 20" and rft tires?

Pricey I know.

I would check in your area if there are any high end audio shops, shops working only with exotics or the like in custom fabrication.

They would be the only ones I would trust in this regard. I don't know how big the woofer is but do you think they could create a custom mount in the rear sides?

I only worry with splicing or moving it will void yiur warranty on those parts. I wouldn't want to be on the hook for the pricey bo system.

Is the bo system a must? Will the harman kardon do? Any chance of contacting a dealer to move you into a 550 w active curve and harman kardon?

If you want to play around with the 21" tire size there are run flats available in 275-40-21 and 315-35-21. Both are a -2% change. 10.8" and 12.4" width respectively vs oe 11.6"

Heads up! The B & O radio option deletes the spare tire. I guess they needed the room for a larger sub-woofer or something like that. Instead, there is a chemical sealant and a small air compressor. This is almost useless unless there is just a slow leak in the tread. Otherwise it is a flatbed to the dealership or tire place. Neither of who will have an OE tire in stock. Wait two days or so for either place to get the tire shipped from Tirerack. You will be without your GL63 for at least three or four days. Fortunately for me, I had the foresight to purchase a spare from a salvage yard very soon after taking delivery. I strapped it in the back compartment. When I blew out the sidewall on a sharp granite curb I did not have to take the flatbed route. Just to complicate matters though, .the donut spare can not be safely placed in the front because of the massive front brakes on the GL63. So the donut goes on a back wheel and the back wheel is placed on the front.

BTW, the radio is not worth the price in the GL. I agree with 1stGL that the radio offers only slight improvement. I ordered the B & O because I had it my Audi Q7 and the sound was phenomenal. None of the local dealers had a GL with the B & O to listen to beforehand. Big dissappointment in the GL. Fortunately the exhaust never ceases to be music to my ears....

this guy posted that. I would pm him and ask how he strapped that down.
