Metallic noise while accelerating
I have a 2017 GLS450, and it has a metallic sounding noise coming from the front driver's side any time I accelerate, typically above 2k RPM. I test drove another 2017 & another used 2019 and it had the same sound. I am currently in a 2019 GLS450 loaner, and it sounds perfect, so I am not convinced the sound is normal. I have never owned a car that buzzes whenever I accelerate, so it is very irritating. The dealership acknowledged the sound and didn't think it was normal but could not come back with a fix. It's back for a second look.

Bearings on the turbo maybe?

It sounds a little like it does when you take the air filter out. Maybe the (engine) air filter housing isn't closed properly? My 2017 GLS 450 doesn't make that sound

Has anyone ever found where this noise is coming from? It is happening exactly the same with my 2017 GLS 450.

It’s a worn piece in the turbos. MB won’t allow dealers to swap them anymore under warranty because technically it’s not a failing turbo, just a noisy one. I finally found a dealership though that was willing to swap them, and the sound went away. This was a few years ago though, but I remember the headache of having that terrible noise on acceleration and nobody acknowledging it was an issue except independent mechanics
