I have 2015 GL 550 (X166). This is first Mercedes (got it 7 months ago). I really like it except this one issue bothers me.

At night I can't turn the headlight off at all (while the engine is running). I turned the light switch to every position (even waited for 30 secs in each position). Even tried it in Park and Drive with the handbrake on & off. But nothing seems to work. Also when the engine is turned off I can't turn the main headlights on, but parking-all, left only, right only work.

P.S. I also noticed that the symbols (left parking, right parking, auto, etc) around the light switch don't illuminate. Is it possible I have a broken light switch?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have never been able to get the lights completely off either. The only time I have tried is during a Christmas light display. I've had to make do with just parking lights. Oddly enough, the headlamp switch positions are not lit.

Thanks, so it's probably just how they built it. In my case the main headlight beams stay on as long as the engine is running (in the dark).
