We didn't want the cup phone holder either and are very happy with the combination from ProClipUSA.com - They sell it in two parts: the dashboard mount and then the actual phone holder. They have several types of phone holders. I just did the Adjustable iPhone Plus (my wife's iPhone XR). We didn't do the 'padded' holder because her phone runs a clear case on it. It seems like it would reduce the air flow from the passenger side AC register but so far that doesn't seem to be the case...
