2017 GLS 450
GLS450 howling in reverse
I have a 2017 GLS450 and when I back in reverse into my driveway into my garage which is in a incline, I can I hear a howling noise coming from the front area. I’m assuming something to do with the front drivetrain area like front differential or transmission? Anyone have similar issues. It’s not super loud, but you can hear it.

Howling suggests a higher frequency sound, not connected with low vehicle speed drivetrain while backing into the garage.

Sounds like a fan or pump. What do you think?

Not sure it’s kinda weird it happens only backing up on steep inclines at slow speed

UPDATE! FIXED!
I replaced the transfer case fluid and put new fluid in. Found Li document stating to replace transfer case fluid for whining noise in reverse. I will update if noise comes back!

2018 Mercedes Benz GLS 450
Getting the same noise on my 2018 GLS 450 w/67k. in reverse, I will go ahead and replace the tansfercase oil and update the thread.

UPDATE: Drain and refilled the transfercase and the noise stopped. The old oil did not look bad at all, replacing it helped. Thanks.
